  • Welcome to Greenville

Welcome to Greenville, birthplace of Annie Oakley, Zachary Lansdowne, the famous naval commander of the USS Shenandoah, and Lowell Thomas, world renowned radio personality, author, and traveler.

Greenville is located in the state of Ohio. The population was 13,294 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Darke County. Greenville is the historic location of Fort Greenville, a pioneer fort built under General Anthony Wayne's command, and the signing of the Treaty of Greenville on August 3, 1795. The signing of the Treaty on, opened up the Northwest Territory for further settlement. The states of Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, and part of Minnesota were forged for this territory.

Ohio's capital is Columbus, population 730,657, located close to the center of the state. Our Governor is Bob Taft (R, to January 2007).
